FUEL Milwaukee is proud to present Race Bridge. Race Bridge offers a monthly, 60-minute conversation intended to help Milwaukeeans better understand the nuances of and speak openly about racism. The goal is also to empower program participants with the language and tools to identify racial inequity and challenge it in a productive way.
There are nearly 30 Race Bridge recordings available for replay on FUEL’s Youtube channel. Feel free to view and share with your network.
YWCA Courses on Race
The YWCA offers two different courses about race: Unlearning Racism and Conversations on Race. Valley employees and businesses can receive a 50% reimbursement from the BID after participating in these courses as part of our work to build a diverse and talented workforce in the Valley.
Register for the course of your choice and forward your registration email to Catrina at Catrina@TheValleyMKE.org. You will receive more information about reimbursement after participation in the course.
Unlearning Racism
Eliminating racism is an ongoing process that involves a willingness to learn about, and begin, undoing, the adverse impact of racism on individuals, organizations, and communities.
Unlearning Racism: Tools for Action© is a six-part education series that affords participants the opportunity to learn about the impact, history, manifestations, whiteness, and addressing racism in one’s sphere of influence. This six-part workshop series examines the history and impact of racism and what participants can do about it.
Conversations on Race
In order to address racism, in all the places where we witness its oppressive power, we need people who understand it, can address it and challenge it. This six-part, 12-hour course, is designed to help you grow your ability to discuss race and racism in everyday conversations. We invite you to join us and learn from our instructors, both white and of color, who will lead the program.
This course is designed to strengthen your understanding of the power of language to shape and control racism, and to deepen your understanding of and normalize conversations about race and racism. See how racism continues to impact our individual lives along with those of our neighbors, families, friends and colleagues, then reflect, journal and converse in small and large groups about the content.
